Polished Concrete has become increasingly popular over the past few years and is creeping over from the commercial into the new residential market as well. It does provide a lower maintenance alternative to Acid Stained Concrete and is virtually indestructible with some caveats and common sense guidelines. In the case of a new home, we will grind, polish and color the slab before framing even begins. This allows us to polish the entire slab without all the labor intensive (expensive) edge work that comes with once cabinets and walls are in place. In most cases, however, this application is not a good fit for a residential remodel unless there is a significant amount of square footage. The cost for the aforementioned edgework is simply too high for most folks.
