Are Stained Concrete Floors right for you?
Concrete, by nature, is very random media. The trowel marks, texture and burnishing that occurs while finishing the concrete can be a beautiful thing to those that can embrace the random, artsy aspect of stained concrete floors. Moreover, if you are embarking on a remodel project, the lineage of the home can become very apparent as we remove the existing flooring. I always tell my clients that “every slab tells a story”. – We once stained an entire home for a client who had built a home and, as their family grew, continued building multiple phases to their fabulous home. As we removed the flooring in each of the rooms and revealed our concrete canvas, she became quite emotional as she remembered where walls had been before and the placement of the long-lost fireplace. She was able to evoke the time their young family had huddled around the hearth, and their only source of heat, as an ice storm raged, knocking out the power for over a week. It was a very powerful and humbling moment. The rustic nature of Stained concrete floors has a huge draw for those looking for ease of maintenance and durability.
However, if you aren’t into the rustic feel and prefer a more consistent looking floor, we always have options for those that require such exactness. In these instances, we usually have you look at polished concrete floors or even our Skimstone overlays that offer (as strange as it sounds) “consistent inconsistency”.
In the end analysis, I don’t believe stained concrete floors ARE for everyone. The really really good news is that there are plenty of concrete flooring options for every personality, style and budget. We’ll help you find a concrete floor that is totally perfect for you!
